Default Window tint for cars...

I don't like the stock visor for my helmet. I was going to buy a dark smoke one for $35, but then I thought about going to ziebart and seeing if I could buy a piece of scrap off of them. Then cut it to size and there's your smoked visor, for $30 less.

But, I am not sure if the tint will stick to the plastic visor. I didn't do the tint on my truck myself, I had ziebart do it. Because we all know purple ebay window tint is garbage. So obviously I have no experience, I wanted to ask anyone on here who does.

Is the tint strictly for glass? Will it work on my plastic visor?

Question: Do you ride at night? If you do, a tinted visor is just going to make you blind. You'll need two, one tinted and one clear if you ride at all hours.

I don't know the optical distortion that sticking on window tint would add. Visors are designed and built to limit distortion and sticking something on top of it might create extra distortion as it curves.

I used to just wear a pair of sunglasses under my helmet until I bought my new one and it came with a smoked and clear visor

I bought a smoked one. I just hate riding at dusk to a restaurant or something then heading home after dark. I dont wear a backpack and I have no tank bag so I either have to endure the sun in my eyes on the way there with a clear shield or ride home in the dark with a tinted shield. I did get caught once with my dark shield at night. With the HIDs it wasnt too bad...

Save and buy a smoked screen or a nice pair of sunglasses.

I dont think its worth it to try and tint it yourself. Just buy the smoked one.

Tint is not that easy to apply. It doesnt just stick on. You have to wet the surface apply the film and then it "cures" onto the glass.

With the contour of the shield it would not be easy. Plus you would have to make a really clean cut.

You would also then have to worry about bubbles and peeling the tint up everytime you open and close it. Not worth it imo.

Some states don't allow tinted visors or sunglasses after dusk. I've had buddies pulled over for it in the past. Having the clear, and a helmet that allows a quick change is a nice bonus.

Flip down inner shield is a win win. Smoked on the inside, clear on the outside. Never have to think about bringing both shields.

I got some scrap window tint last year and put a ¾ inch strip at the top of the visor. It is outstanding for street use when riding into the sun. I don’t recommend it for track use because when you are tucked in, you are are constantly looking through that portion of the visor. It was easy to apply a thin strip without wrinkles and it even holds up to wiping with water and a soft cloth.

Alright thank you guys for your help, because to be honest I thought a piece of tint would work no problem. I'm glad I asked though!
