I guess it all depends on what you call winter, Up here in Canada, we have to do things a little different. Start of by topping off the gas tank and adding fuel stabalizer accordingly. Change oil and filter. Best case scernerio, Keep it in a warm enviroment. If that's not possible, remove the battery, keep the tires off cold ground ( Use a blanket or card board ), cover intake and exhaust and cover bike with breathable material ( not Plastic or tarp ). I reccoment not starting your bike till winter is over. Also, When parking my snowmobile for the summer I poor about a teespoon of oil in each cylinder and tuen the engine over once or twice. This keeps the cylinders nice and lubbed for the long hibernation. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt your bike to do the same.

I have always just added gas and rode the crap out of it!

Oh, sorry, I forgot that not everyone lives in Florida...
