Question what clear coat for gas tank

Hey guys.
Right iv been painting my fairings and clear coating with upol clear coat recommended by my local paints shop am rattle canning.
After to talking to one of the guys in there he said when it comes to your tank you will have to be a little careful because if petrol (gas) spills on the tank it will take it of is this true or not.
Also if i do need some sort of special clear coat can i rattle can it on or do i have to use a comm presser.
Thanks guys
Matt

you just need an automotive grade clearcoat. so the answer to your question is yes, gasoline will strip your standard spray paint clear coat finishes.

Yes. They pre-mix it and put it in a spray bottle but it won't last for very long after its been mixed. I wouldn't say only 24hours but certainly less than typical 'spray' paints.
