Weird VIN problem with cbr600F
The 600F hurricane which is what I have was made 87 to 89 could be 90 but I forget. 91 would make it the f2. Over the years of buying parts for it thinking it was a f2 and them not fitting I did more research. Bought parts for 89 and they fit perfectly. No issues. When I got the park it was a frame and engine and wiring harness, it was a mess. I rebuilt inside and out with the 89 parts and today it's running strong. The engine vin is 89 hurricane. And all the parts match 89. The frame style IS 89 hurricane. I found that out by getting a F2 tank and it not fitting. Got the hurricane tank, fit like a glove. Idk it's the weirdest **** I have ever seen and the best explanation was the one about it sitting in the factory or dealer till it got sent out. Which was then registered in 95 in South Carolina.
The F2 started in 91. Perhaps, maybe, and possibly the F2 came out mid year of 91, leaving early 91's still F1? Just a guess though. Chevy used to do that all the time.
The last 6 of your VIN will tell how early it was produced and where it was in a production split.
Is your VIN tag a sticker with a production date or is it stamped into the frame?
