Water pump question
I'm in Michigan so obviously not much riding gets done this time of year. I went out to the garage and uncovered and moved my bike so I could get to something in the back. Underneath the bike was a puddle of coolant about the size of a 50 cent piece so I pulled the fairing and found the water pump to be dripping the coolant. My question is does the whole water pump need to be replaced or just the seals? Thanks in advance for any advice.
Just because you have a little leak doesn't mean you have to replace the pump. Figure out where exactly it's coming from and go from there. Could be something as simple as a loose hose clamp.
Next step would be to re-torque all the bolts; drain plug included. If that doesn't do it then you probably just have a deteriorated gasket, imo. If the bike doesn't overheat, then it's not your pump, it's just a bad seal. Cheap & easy fix.
