Right.. I have impulsively ordered the following:

Stainless steel downpipes + Gaskets
Air filter
Oil filter
APE Manual CCT
4 Sparks
Some new oil.

As my 1993 CBR 600 is in need of them

However, the extent of work I have ever done on a bike (barr lubing etc) is fitting a new slipon can, various batteries, a new regulator/rectifier (in france whilst touring lol) a double bubble screen, all on this bike and... (get ready for it) a RAM air filter on my 50cc trailie 11 years ago lol.

I have a few guides on how to do this stuff but with no experience I was wondering how hard it will be (doens't actually look too bad to me but then I don't really know anything). - I'm kinda also getting this thread ready as a place where I can ask 'how to' when I inevitably get something wrong

The stuff is all due today, and monday.

 

just find the on-line manual and you will do just fine. If you have any questions let us know.

also if you can get your hands on a Haynes Manual it would be a big help, I have one and it tells you how to do literally anything on your bike with illustrated and real pictures, one of the best $25 ive spent on my bike

 

Great, I might get a Haynes then (I do have a huge service manual but it might be a little over complicated for me lol).

The main things to watch out for with what you're doing is not to over-torque. The threads on these aluminum blocks are easily stripped.

 

your best bet is to plan for problems. When dealing with cars or bikes there is always atleast one problem, always. Don't get discouraged and check over everything a few times and you should be fine

 

Yeah thats the main thing Im worried about. How do you know how much to tighten?

Get youself a service manual; it lists all the torque values as well as proper procedures. See if it's in here: LINK. You'll need a torque wrech (obviously). With the sparkplus I couldn't use the torque wrench (wouldn't fit) so I did what the manual said which was to hand tighten them, then give them another 1/2 turn with the wrench. But again, go by what your manual says.

Edit: Just saw you have a service manual already. Just read it several times, in particular the areas of repair that you're going to be performing. Go over to the bike and get aquainted with where everything is. If it's not well illustrated, get a Haynes Manual as suggested above.
