Default vandalism-insurance claims

Hey everyone,

My cbr was vandalized yesterday and I'm working with the insurance to get a claim processed. I was wondering if anybody has been through this experience, please share your thoughts and any advice you might have for me. I can't afford to have it fixed at a shop right now and wanted to do the work myself, how do I tell the insurance I just want to collect $ for the damages?

Thanks in advance,
sad and pissed about stupid and ignorant ppl....

If you want to do it yourself you will most likely have to have an adjuster look at your bike and the both of you can come up with a list of what needs to be replaced then get prices and they will cut you a check but you will most likely have to turn receipts over when parts received to make sure your not screwing them and buying a cheaper part.
Also if you do it yourself you will not get paid for your time it takes to repair it.
A claim is a claim I would personally jut take it to a shop and let them do the work and have them insurance company pay them directly.
I have never gone through it but that is my guess on how it would work.

If the bike is covered by Comprehensive insurance, then the insurance company is going to pay for Parts and Labor, minus your deductible. They'll most likely have an adjuster look at the bike and the damages done (probably take pictures), figure the cost for repair including labor, subtract your deductible and cut you a check.

I had a bike stolen and recovered 4 days later. There was damage to all locks, tank, and rear fender. They figured the cost, subtracted the $500 deductible and gave me a check. I used the money to buy the parts for less than what they had estimated the cost to be (they use dealer prices), and I performed the labor. Worked out to be no cost to me because I saved $500 in labor and better parts pricing. I don't think you're going to have any problem with it. Just tell them you're going to fix it yourself.

Now, if you have a loan against the bike, they may need proof that the work has been done since the bike serves as collateral.
