Valve clearance check after engine rebuild?
Hello All,
Got my engine rebuilt about 2-3k mi ago including new cut valve seats, ballhone, ring, crankshaft, and bearings (btw it feels GREAT to ride again after half a year of an f4i in pieces in my garage!!!!)
Anyway the manual says valve clearance check/adjust every 16k mi, but would it benefit to do it earlier on a rebuilt engine? or overkill? I'd rather not do it if I don't have to, but I'd hate to damage the engine I spent so much $$ on.
Thanks all!

at ~6kmiles (Full synthetic) I'd bring it in for new oil/filter and valve check.(if good go 15k from there) every other oil change. I figure you hear no taps just thinking just-bc for doing it.
As a daily rider it spends most its time just getting up to temp then shut down. not many long trips few 100m each time running a tank or so
still new enough you need a trip to really break it in. pick a place 2-3-tanks away and just ride till your butt hurts.
I hit Laughlin cpl wks ago w/daughter & friends. Friend had trailer with the ones to show like my 08. I rode the 98 and she had the 92. and we wound the **** outta them on the mt roads and I got to show all the 08 on the 40..lol have a digital speedo on dash now(stock was just epileptic at 220ish), so no need for radar gun.
but as 300m run still had to stop for gas after the throttle lashings gave the 92&98 in the mts. with Vegas in cpl mos. in July ther'es the run to the desert. kind of a 'race-week' in Glamas both street and dirt 1/4, 1/2, 1m, even 5 to 20mile runs/races bith blacktop and sand. My other Daughter likes to come with us to this. She gets to tear the hell outta the YZ-400 across the dunes. I'm a lil too busted up to go have 'proper' fun on the 250 but she luvs that too.(plus bringing 2 new riders with their 80cc &125cc's to play in the sand.. Then for me and other daughter.. get to tech lessons on old 900s.. Sometimes advancement stops and its just newer. (planning on paying for Vegas trip with Glamus trip.) Jess gets a kick outta running/winning across the sand mostly bc all these 500 new-types still cant outrun a good rider on a 30yo 400(with some work done to it over the years) time to start looking at a new 250 though.. as now sooo much lighter.. maybe I could go back out. Hopefully find one b4 7/21. I can lift the new 125zinger we got with 1hand reaching out. bike weighs like 60lbs. our CR250 you need put your hip into it. so makes for some real hard landings. Was at friends N of SLC last summer and his new YZ-250 was so light we went freeway jumping 4-lanes. and whew in the woods.. snapped around like a bmx plus sure footed up in the canyons.. also 1 arm lift.. (those from SLC are kinda dirt-nuts or maybe some sand has creeped into their brains abit.. But make for BIG FUN!! We kinda detour thata way each yr 2wks b4 Vegas. Good ride through mts getting there then out across desert as they come with to Vegas.
I still think you can make it from SLC to Vegas and NOT travel Any roads. Maybe this year so long as the 400 is still alive, Jess and I'll take turns while everyone scouts roadways to avoid. got a box of SENAs a few yrs back. incredible headset with 10-15mile range on open terrain. then if further can use the Bluetooth for your phone. all the while running MP3 also bluetoothed even into all connected headsets.
WOW I can ramble..
