Vacuum Hose connections ?

Vacuum Hose connections ?
I'm putting a replacement motor/tranny into my '03 F4i and trying to re-connect all the stuff. I pretty much think I have it, but some of the pics I took when I took everything apart are missing. So I think I have it from the shop manual but the hoses I am not sure of, two small vacuum hoses near the back of the Throttle body housing.....they don't seem to make sense, the way I think the manual shows them going....
They are shown spring-clipped onto some stubs that stick down from the plastic housing of the filter element...the airbox...But those things are just solid 'prongs' that wouldn't allow anything to move through the hoses...are they simply supposed to go up there and get plugged? I'd expect holes to allow something to go through the hoses...vacuum or pressure...something...
anyone want to help me? What am I missing here?
TIA, Don Hanson

I stuck the lines onto these solid plastic projections on the bottom rear of the airbox, fiddled with those frustrating spring clips to keep those non functional hoses in place there, and the motor works fine....so...
For whatever reason, Honda seems to have done that a bit strange, perhaps over-complicating the whole deal, unless I am missing some hidden reason to have hoses that lead to a dead-end.
Anyway, 'new' motor and tranny in and running...now I need a dry day to see if I have second gear that stays engaged on this bike now...
