Tranny issue
2004 F4i
Downshifting sometimes my shifter doesn't want to shift down. Also while in Neutral without moving, it takes some effort to shift down into first. Any ideas what this could be? Does the tranny need new fluid ands it could be something as simple as that? I am not too sure about trannys.

First off, I can't be much help here, so I appologize for that up front. However, I did want to comment on the "tranny fluid" thing. I'm 99% sure that your bike is a "wet clutch" tranny design. If this is the case, then your oil is working (oil as in Engine oil) as your transmission fluid.
Which leads me to my next question... did you recently do/get an oil change on your bike? If you didn't put the correct oil in it, that can cause some problems...

see, like I said, don't know much about the trannys. But I had is serviced at the dealer, at the beginning of the summer, which included an oil change. But if thats the case, maybe I'll have to do another oil change.
Yeah your oil is the only fluid for tranny and clutch. Check the following for problems:
(1) Clutch adjustment - How's your freeplay? May need to tighten it up a bit
(2) Bent shifter rod or it needs adjustment (had this prob b4)
(3) Wrong oil weight can also cause problems in shifting
I doubt its your tranny. Check your shifterassembly as that was my problem. I pulled the lever off and turned if one notch and grabs the gearsperfect now.

I have an 04 F4i and Ive noticed sometimes slowing down for say a redlight I have trouble downshifting. My fix is to let off the clutch lever, this will re-engage the clutch. Then pull the lever in and try again. It always works the second time around. As for sitting still going from neutral to first Ive never had that prob.
Streetdemon: Ive never thought about adjusting the shifter rod. Sometimes I have problems getting from 1st to 2nd (I end up in neutral). Do you think tightening the rod would help?

Mrpink - In your case it sounds like you may be taking second at a low rpm...push it a little harder up the dial and you wont touch neutral.
