Stonecold, I would agree on taping up or covering up the speedometer. I look at it to gauge my latest ability to take known country. Same on my snowmobile, I look at the tack some and the speedo. You can miss alot in a second or two, trying to focus on a shakey reading.

The big difference is, if you know you have a lap timer, you'll be more likely to check your lap times AFTER you exit the track or at least on a long straight. Speed has to be seen at the moment you're doing it and, as Hiker said, a hell of a lot of distance is covered at 150mph and staring down at a blurry speedo at that speed is a good way to end up ambulanced[8D]
