Default torqueing the axle bolt

hey i have a stupid question. I am not the best backyard mechanic and i want to make sure that i do this right. Really don't want to loss a wheel or anything at 100+. In my 600rr manual it says to torque the rear axle bolt to 83 lbf.ft. My question is what does the lbf mean. My quess is that it's 83 ft. pounds of torque, but i want to make sure i am right.

thanks

crappy mechanic
