Default Tire Q

Hey my front tire has some small splitting happening I wondering why it is doing this and if it needs replacing. Also how long should your front tire last you? I am an everyday rider so that you wear it out more I would think

Little cracks in the grooves of the tread...? Its age (with age comes UV and ozone damage). This is normal. Tires are generally good for 5 years. Look on the side wall of the tire for a 4 digit number...like 1202 - that would mean the 12th week of 2002.

If you are just using it for commuting, its probably fine....but as it ages it gets less soft and has less grip....so put it on your list of things to possibly replace.

Sport bike front tires last around 7-9000 miles...by that point usually they are feathered or worn enough to warrant replacement.

youre right for the most part but (and i DO NOT want to start the tire issue again) but it really all depends on which tire you have to begin with.

i have gotten about 10-13k out of my front tire with no ill effects. but then again i dont do that much "spirited" riding after about 8k........

Yeah I just don't want to worry about a blow out or something. I've had the tire since I got the bike but I have a 06 600F4i. So I would think it's fine, but I guess I don't have a whole lot of confidence in it since it's showing wear like that. I wonder to if I should replace it now or just wait a while? What do you think??

Keep a close eye on it. A dry rot tire will get worse quick. Cracks ren't all that bad, but if they are deep, between the tread I'd start tire shopping. My last rear tire only lasted 5K miles, but the front looked like it could go another few thou.

anthony, post a pic of what you're talking about.

people are giving you advice/diagnoses based on very little information. It could be dry rot, it could be cold tears, who knows. Post some pics so people aren't giving you blind info.
