Default Tire opinions needed

Ok,
I'm fixing to get some new tires for my 900RR. I'm debaiting on two different ones. I'm either going to go with Metzelers or Avons. What does everyone think?

I have used the Metzler Sportec M1 tires on my 900rr and they are AWESOME..I currently have a 600F4 and have MIchelin Pilot Power tires and they seem fine. I took them to a trackday and have 1800 miles on the street and they look awesome still. I have never tried the Avon tires, but I dont think there is a bad tire out there nowadays

Good info, thanks. Well now I found another good deal I may do. My local honda deler will give me either the Metzeler's or Pirelli Diablos for about $225 with free mounting. I have heard good things about both tires. Any advice between these two?

Either tire is good..so juust flip a coin!!! That is a good deal. Is that mounting including if you bring the bike or just the wheels?? if it is on the bike that is a GREAT deal

I would go with the the pirelli diablos just because I like stickier tires. I would rather give up tread life than traction any day! I have heard mixed reviews on the m-1's but have only heard good things about the diablos. Both are good but I would lean toward the diablos!

I will probably have to filp a coin, like you said. I have heard great things about both tires. It may come down to which ones they can get sooner. They have to order the front, since it's a 130/70/16. They don't keep that size in stock. That price included mounting and balancing weither I brought the bike in or just the wheels. They said anytime someone buys two tires, they will install them for free.

I've got the Diablos on my bike right now.

I love them.

Now, I'm not a maniac and don't do track days. (not yet anyway)
But that said, the traction is great, they are very confidence inspiring. They don't really have a noticeable warm up issue. I seem to be getting decent tread life as well.

my bike came with the diablo corsa's on it they were great tires sticky with a quick warm up. but i had to replace the rear after about 2500 miles, i was going to go with the pirelli again but they were so expensive. i went with the metzler M1 and i've had it now for about 1600 miles and so far no complaints performance wise it seems compatible to the diablo, but it does seem to be giving better tread life. either way you should get what you are looking for.

Mine came with the diablo's also -- I consider them above average. I think I'll go to the bridgestone bt014 for my next set. Laugh if ya want but I've only had excellent experience with the BT series of tires. Also they were rated highly in several bike rag issues. My main complaint about the Pirelli's is that the back tire is shaped oddly -- if you're looking at the bike from the back, the tire has a hump in the middle. When leaning over there's a certain point where I swear I can feel the transition from the hump to the stickier stuff on the sides.

Here's my question: Anybody tried going to a 180/55 rear instead of the 190/50? I found the 180 to be a better fit for my old Busa but was wondering about the 1kRR.
