Man, I didn't even know tires needed to be "scrubbed in." I've got new tires coming in the mail too .

you fools...scrub in with a power sander it's the only way.

yes tires need to be scrubbed in...

shouldn't take much to scrub them in if you know what you need to do...or if you're at the track...

Before I go for a ride I'll "weave" back and forth from left to right for about a few blocks at @25-30 mph...

This looks like an old thread but I was doing a search andcame across so here is my "last night" expierience...

Iride Avon Tyres on my 06 CBR 1000, come to think of it, I have ridden Avon on all 3 bikes I have had in my life. I just like them, they really hug... Anyway, I am a Personal Trainer and I was leaving the gym around 10:30 last night. Not taking in consideration I had just put on a new tire that day, I took off down a little twisty road through a neighborhood... Great road by the way! As I reached the apex of the first curve it dawned on my, "NEW TIRE!!!". Well, as this thought crossed my mind the bike slid out from under me going about 40mhp. It was so strange, the feelings I had as I slid down the road watching the sparks fly off the road from the rearsets. I was almost amused in the fact that I knew better but wasn't thinking about that damntire... The bike came to a stop as did I, so picking it up for the dreaded inspection only to find that the engine casing had some hard rash and it had grinded the bolts down. The frame and swingarmsliders on the right side were trimmed away and I had a crack in the upper fairing. Other than that, the bike was good to go! As for me, as soon as I hit the ground I imedietly sprawed out for the slide. I always wear my gloves, jacket, helmet, pants, etc. so with the exception of the right hip suffering the initial blow, I was good! Hoped back on the bike a took of for the house!

Point proven! New tires are very slick and need to be broken in well before trying to drag your knee around the curves...

I've never heard of anyone ever needing to hit tires with sandpaper. There's just no reason for it.
Oh, c'mon. The reason is to get rid of your chicken strips before going to bike night.

^^ LOL.

It's funny this thread reappeared. I just got back from the Superbike School at Laguna Seca, and THEY TOO use the sandpaper method to get rid of the slick coating before the tires hit the track. So, hmmmm. Maybe my suggestions aren't horse s**t after all.
