Timing Question
Just bought a '96 CBR600 F3. The guy I bought it from said it was making noise like the chain was loose and then just quit running. Now the bike back fires when trying to start. How much damage can I expect to find if the chain jumped while at out and is now out of time? Thanks for any info.

I'm assuming that you're talking about the timing chain jumping teeth. I'm not saying it's impossible, but highly unlikely. The cam tensioner would have to be so far gone it would have stopped running before that point. There's a higher probability that the plug wires are just in the wrong spot. To know for sure, we'd have to know more about the make and model bike.

I've heard on many occasion that people have put the plug wires on in the wrong order, or had them attached to the wrong coils. If you look closely at the plug wires, they've got numbers written on the, numbered 1-4. That is indicating the cylinders that they're supposed to be connected to. Cylinders are numbered in order Left to Right as you're sitting on the bike. Number 1 is on your left and number 4 is on your right. Check closely.
