Exhaust is leaking at the head, when the bike warms up it expands the metal rings, (exhaust gaskets), between the head and the header. It also expands the exhaust and cylender head to a lesser extent. Would try retrouqeing header bolts. It's happened to me a few times, (must note, my exhaust is from a 93 and my motor is a 98, that and my frame is also a 93, so I have all sorts of weird noises going on.)

On my bike the ticking is the auto adjusting cam chain tensioner, easily treplaced with an aftermarket piece.

"treplaced" is french for replaced...

not everything that ticks is the cctl. i think it's likely the exhaust system...but sometimes valves will tick until some oil gets to them...you may want to try different oil.
