Default Thinking of buying.....

I am thinking o buying my buddies 1998 CBR600 F3. THis would be my first street bike. It is in good condition with a few upgrades (exhaust, intake, sliders, new plastic). It has 37,000 miles and apears to run great. How much do you think would be a fair price range to pay for this (he wants me to make an offer). Is there anything in particular I should look at before I buy it, potential problems?

I am also looking at another friend of mines 1999 F4. It has only 12,000 miles. He says it is fuel injected, but I didn't think the 99's were FI. THis one is 100% stock, but looks like it came off the showroom floor, perfect condition. he is asking $4000 (think I can talk him down to $3500). Is the F4 much better than the F3?

Thanks for you help in advance

Dan

F4i (i=fuel injected) and I believe they started in '01 so a '99 would most likely be an F4 (no i=carbed). As for buying from friends, that can be touchy, but offer what will make you both happy and stay friends. But you can defintely do better then 4000 for a '99.

I think i'm going with the F3, would an offer of $2000 be an insult. Plus I'm re-building his toyota engine, wich is $480 in parts, and I will pay for the parts.

I think you should go with a ninja 250 as your first bike
It cost about 3000bux new and you can find a lot of them for 1500-2000bux in grear condition

It doesn't lose its value as much and is very forgiving. It is a great bike to learn and once you know the basics you can sell it in like 6months from now.

I rode my buddy F3, owned an F4, and right now owning an F4i.

F3 is a great starter bike as it doesn't have much kick while starting. F4 is abit harder as it does have a lot of juice... and of course I love my f4i

Everybody who started with a 600 probably dropped it once. (especially if you are small)

i paid 3800 for 2001 f4i with 17,000 miles on it so 4000 for a 99 with 12,000 isnt what i would be interested in. The f3 is still a very fast bike and if this is your first bike i would look for somthing a little smaller.. you will deffenetly like having a smaller bike when you drop it and theres not hundreds of dollers of damage.. i think a dualsport is great starter bike because when you drop it nothing happends! plus they are fun to ride (street legal dirtbike) because you can take them off road as well! but if you still want to get the F3 $2000 is a fair price for the bike..

I would go with a smaller bike, but I am not a small guy. 5' 11' 250lbs (only 13% body fat). I apreciate all your guys help. I have been riding dirt biles for about 2 yrs now, and I will be taking the Riding class provided by a organization through the DMV (can't remember what they call it here in Oregon). I think I will be able to hanle the 600. I am more of a cruiser than a racer.

I started with my F3 as my first street bike. I only weigh around 155 and am 6' tall and didn't have any major problems with the weight. Like other guys have said the F3 is still a very fast bike ( rated at 11sec in the 1/4 mile ), but of course its not quite as fast as the more modern injected bikes. You will be fine on the f3 if you have a decent amount of dirt experience. Just remember one thing tho, it won't be your riding ability that will get you killed.....it will be the idiot that cuts you off, pulls out in front of you, isn't paying attention etc... One guy almost cost me my life last yr when he cut me off on the highway. Worst part about it was the a$$ hole didn't even stop to see if I was alright.
