Default Tach stops working

I tried searching for an answer with no luck. I am debating buying a 98 600 F3 and the current owner tells me the only problem it has is that sometimes when it gets hot, the tach dies (although the bike keeps running). What could cause this? I was thinking loose connection, but that wouldn't explain why it only does it when it's hot.

I looked at the wiring diagram and the tach leadgoes straight to the Ignition control module. Does that send the tach signal or does it come from a manual sensor somewhere? Thanks in advance!

Also just noticed the ignition pulse generator goes straight to the ignition control module. The answer has to be somewhere between the two. Any ideas?

start tracing the wires, look for shorts in them, poorly done patches, things spliced in and the like.

If memory serves me right, the tach goes to something on the right side, below the CCT. pretty much its likely that sensor in there warms up, and shorts out.

mine does that too, sometimes a good wack will fix it, at most just switch the bike off, and then back on again. That fix's it every time...for a while atleast
