Can anyone walk me through how to fix my start button and walk me through how to get to it properly

 

Download a copy of the Service Manual and take that sucker apart. If you mess it up, you can buy a used clip-on with the whole throttle assembly attached for like $50 on eBay.

 

Aw damn you think that I have to do all that just to see why tge start button is sticking in when I push it

 

It all depends on how badly you want a functioning starter switch

Edit: Ron Ayers has a new switch for $60. I'd try and fix it. If you can't pull it off, then get a new one, imo.

 

Two small screws on the under side will split the two halves. As you open it up look out for small springs. Spray some electronic tuner cleaner into it. Likely it has some dirt and corrosion in the mechanism. Lube with a little silicone spray and close it up. If that doesn’t do it , I would replace the whole unit.

I've got a 2000 F4 & recently had a problem w/a sticky starter switch. My understanding is, its a common problem. I simply sprayed some WD40 in that sucker, flicked the switch a few times to lubricate, & has been ok ever since. That's not to say that its a permanent fix...b/c I'm sure I'll have to replace it at some point. However, its kept me going.

As for your headlights... When you push in your starter switch, it cuts power to the lights to allow for the start of your engine. If your switch sticks forward even a tiny bit, your engine may still run but your lights won't. Just make sure its all the way out.
