speedo/guages question...
Hey all,
Im new to the forum, I am building a chopper right now powered by a 2004 CB600F motor.. I am trying to build in a computerized system with a waterproof LCD for the speedometer and tach built into the tank. I really dont know where to start with that, or even if the wiring will be compatible with such a system...
Anyone have any ideas?
Here's some pics of the build so far..

What type of exhaust are you planning on running??? Just curios to know how it's going to sound. It'd be funny to hear and see a chopper fly by at 120 screaming like a sport bike.
Are you thinking about using the stock speedo? Cut the plastic off and have it molded into the tank. That would give you all of the indicators you'll ever need. Everything should be easy to trace out with the shop manual... but I'm not sure how the fuel gauge works. I'll assume there's a sensor in the tank of the 04. Can you get that and mount it in the shopper. That's one of the biggest flaws in cruisers, no gauges.

Im going to be running a straight 4 into 1 into 2, the pipes will split right around the bottom of the motor, and come out a little in front of the rear wheel, kinda like an old side exhaust on a corvette... Should give a pretty meaty sound... but either way its gonna sound like a sportbike at 10-12k rpms
I have the stock speedo's... the plastics are a bitch.. I work with metal, not plastic
The one thing that is attractive about using the stock guages is i'll have a temp guage on the tach.. But I really am looking for a computer system made for this, if one exists...
Im really trying to break the boundaries on technology with this bike. I already fabricated a stable system for iPod integration with bluetooth wireless headphones built into the helmet, garage door opener, and cellphone hookup. Not the safest things to be integrating on a motorcycle... but it hasnt really been done before to this degree.

I just thought the stock speedo would be easiest. The wiring will just plug in and all you'd have to do is get a speedo healer ($100) to fix the reading. Since the tires, wheel base and ... hell everything will be different than the 04, the speedo will have to be adjusted.
I don't know of any other speedos designed to work with this, but I'll look and post if I find anything.

Yea, that was gonna be another post about the healer.. since this motor doesnt have a speedo cable that goes direct to wheel I was wondering how i would have to go about making the reading right... Do you have a link to the speedo healer?
Thanks again,
Dan

Always try the obvious first.
