hey i am trying to build a streetfighter, i have the headlight(acerbis cyclops) and aftermarket turn signals, but i am stuck with the stock speedometer setup, is it the law to have one, i have seen the digital ones but i really don't want to spend $200 on it, thanks in advance

 

you can try the following for about half that amount. only problem is that your speed reading will be about 5-10 mph off. odometer readings will not change. if it were me and i was going streetfighter, i would spend the 200 because at least you get more usefulness from the digital dash and a cleaner installation.

is it the law to have one? i don't know. but don't get pulled over if you don't have a working one. getting a fix-a-ticket for it is a pain because they will have you show that it is functioning correctly.

i dont think its the law to have a speedometer. in colorado you dont even have to have turnsignals.
would you be interested in something like this? stock speedo/tach/gauges, headlight/fairing, and mounts to tripple clamps

 

no that's not what i am looking for i have the stock stuff but i want to turn it into a naked bike. What about going to the local performance shop and buying and aftermarket tach and speedo,think that would work?

 

the tach should not be a problem. the speedo on the otherhand is driven mechanically. you'll have to figure out where and how to take the reading.

 

won't the wiring match up?

 

the speedo on F1's are mechanicaly driven by a cable from the front tire. most aftermarket speedo/tachs are going to be electronic. you might be able to wire up the tach to work, but there is no signal wire to get a speed reading from.

 

This may sound crazy but what about a good gps I have seen real nice ones that show speed in mph that are spot on from what I here.I plan to buy one soon when I get one I will let you know.You could even track your mileage that way.And then you could just add an after market tach.Theres a guy in this fourm that went from Atlanta Ga to Tuson Az,and he has a gps that has all kinds of options he has a ton of cool pics from the trip and the gps is in like two or three of them.It shows everything gas mileage,carbon foot print,And I heard from other people that have used them on boats,cars,four wheelers,that there great and they have not to many problems.So if thats really the case, it would make no diffrence what sprockets you use or anything else that may throw off mph right?It looks small too so you could more than likely tuck it anywhere.The post is 2nd page in new post,and the post is Almost cross country ride.

 

The GPS is a good idea but i live in Toronto,Canada and it gets cold here sometimes, the LCD screens don't like the cold, i was going to buy a digital speedo but the reviews aren't the greatest

 

whelp, i suppose your only option is to do a mechanical hookup like what i did.
