???'s on changing fork oil...
When is the usual time to change the oil in the front forks. & what do you feel for when your shocks start to need replacing? I just purchased a 97 F3 and the forks drop upon hard braking like nothings there. The preload is set with NO LINES showing and the rebound setting is turned all the way to HARD (hardest setting); and still feels very spongy. Can anyone give me advise on the F3 front suspension?? Also, what are the stock settings on the F3?? Please help![

Modern sports bikes usually come with a baffling range of possibilities for adjusting rebound and compression damping and spring pre-load at both ends of the bike.
its just he never mentioned it,

OK, I checked towards the bottom of the fork and DID NOT find any adjustment for the compression. I know my R1 had one towards the bottom of the fork. I remember when I had a 95 F3, it also did not have a compression adjustment toward the bottom of the fork, ONLY preload and rebound adjusters on the top of the fork tubes. Does this mean I have F2 forks or older F3 forks?? Which years of the F3 did it come with compression adjusters at the bottom of the fork?? Thanks for the replys guys!
Hey Anubis, do you also post on the R1 forum?

I could be wrong so feel free to correct me anyone, )been a while since i adjusted em) but i`m sure on mine (cbr1000rr).
Top of forks is -
Large adjuster = compression Damping
Small adjuster = Preload
Bottom of forks is - Rebound Damping.
The thing is the problem your having could be one or a mixture of alot of things, easiest way to try and sort is to return the bike susp to stock and see what it rides like then work from there. Some things to consider could be:
Bent rim
worn or damaged rear wheel bearings
faulty rear tyre
unbalanced rear tire and wheel
insufficient rear tyre pressure
faulty swingarm pivot bearings
faultyu rear shock absorber
loose rear suspension fasteners
worn rear suspension pivot bearing
worn cush drive pads
I`d get a manual (someone here prob have one) and check from the simple one upwards, see how she rides after each change.
and no mate I don`t post on the R1 forum, I do post on 1000cc.co.uk here in the Uk though. (Anubis-Blade)
