Default Changing fork oil on 91 F2 ?

Can this be done while on the bike ?

I was thinking about taking the wheel off, Undoing the top bolt, and withdrawing the spring and spacer.
Then undo the drain bolt at the bottom of the fork to get the old oil out. install the drain bolt again, compress the forks, then pour fresh oil to the specified hight, and assemble it all again.....

Because the forks are angled on the bike, i will have to figure ot the correct oil level ofcourse....

Is there a flaw in my plan ?

Yes. You won't be able to pull the spring and spacer out because there's a bolt at the bottom that holds them in, which you can't access unless you have removed the front axle. Other than that its probably fine. But why are you opting to change the fork oil? I wouldn't bother. The only time I've done it on my bike is when I was putting in new fork seals because they were leaking.
But beyond removing the spring, the rest of your plan seems perfectly valid. You could just look up how much fork oil is actually supposed to go in it and then measure that amount out to put in. It's like 2 ounces less than whats in a bottle of the Honda fork oil I think per fork.
Anyway, good luck.

Default RE: Changing fork oil on 91 F2 ?

Thanks

Well,a week ago, I had minor a leak in the left fork, And I have ordered a fork seal and dust seal kit. But the leak was only there that one day, and there has not been anything at all the whole following week. So maybe it was just some dirt or something that got snagged in the seal.....
Since my bike has had a few owners before me, I dont have a clue if they ever changed the oil. It might be very old....or maybe ithas all leaked out
My front end seems realy soft, compared to my friends Suzuki`s and Aprillia`s.
So I would like to see what is going on.

Looking at my Haynes manual, it should be possible to take the large spring and spacer out, without undoing the allen bolt in the bottom of the fork. That bolt only holds the damper rod, and damper spring in place....those partshold the fork tubes together, so the wheel does not come flying off when doing wheelies

The oil level is messured while the spring and spacer is out, and the tubes fully compressed. The hight should then be 118mm or 4.65" from the top of the tube, to the oil......but this is with the fork tube level. The levelchanges, when the fork is tilted :-) So ill have to figure that out.

I only need to remove move Nr.15,16,17,18,19
And the bolt and washer on the fork itself Nr.1 which is not numbered.
