replacing levers. HELP!
So I was out trying to replace my clutch lever today, but the bolt holding it in absolutely will not budge. Also, when I pull the clutch in the bolt moves with the lever, which I get the feeling isn't supposed to happen. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton.
I'm wondering if the previous owner didn't use red Locktite on it. Either that or it's rusted together. Saturate it with penetrating oil (WD-40) & let it sit for a day or two. If that doesn't work then heating it up with a blow torch might do it, and finally if all else fails you may end up having to grind it off.
the threads coming out of the bottom look completely fine though is the thing...cuz i was thinking that same thing at first, but then i checked out the bolt at the bottom and it looks normal
The threads on the bolt are fine... It is the other side that is stripped. The bolt is harder than the material it threads into and the bolt is seized in the bushing. I had to knock mine out with a punch.
finally fixed it...turns out nothing was stripped. the part of the screw that goes through the lever was actually rusted to that bushing inside the clutch...after about a can of wd-40 and a lot of waiting i finally got it. needless to say i lubed the new lever quite well.
