Default Repacking my muffler for the first time

I planned to repack my muffler today.
Can anyone tell me if I need to repack?

or do I have to remove the core and fibreglass to find out

No that does not need repacked. If you want remove the core with the fiberglass around it and use masking tape to tighten the fiberglass around the core. Then slide it back in the canister and rivet it back up. You can change the tone of the exhaust by removing fiberglass. Like if you removed half the fiberglass so you only had half around the core it would be alot louder. Just make sure you wrap that fiberglass tight around the core with masking tape before you rivet it back up. It will need repacket when you start getting blueing on the canister or the fiberglass looks burned and really black in color.

Make sure you wear gloves and a mask when ever you handle fiberglass.

Excellent feedback, I was thinking it was a bit loud if anything.
How long/km's does a muffler go for until they need repacking, roughly?
