I would not recommend it. Just wait till the new one comes in.

The F2's & F3's are notorious for regulator/rectifier problems. I speak from personal experience in that I had a 96 F3 for about 4 years and went through about 5 regulators and 2 batteries. two of the regulators WERE the ones with the cooling fins. Now the original went out and it just died one day while riding, i replaced it with a used one of my F2 parts bike, then the battery went out. I bought a new battery BUT because the old battery put a strain on the R/R the used R/R went out. I got a new one with the fins it lasted a year or so but the cheap battery I bought sulfated and burned that R/R up so got another used one and put on it but decided to wait n get a battery too so It sat through that winter. Spring came and I went bought a Yuasa battery at a Honda shop and ordered another new finned R/R. put them on and all was well, for a while then one day while riding to work I smelled something and when I got to work the R/R had melted and that black crap had ran all over my pipe, swingarm and inside tail fairing. I had to haul it home. I said the heck with it put the used one back on it and later got rid of it because I got tired of fighting it. Heat is their enemy! they build ALOT of heat, especially if the battery is weak or old. I would replace the battery as well i I were you. If it goes out again do the GSXR conversion, plenty of info on here on how to do it, its simple.
