I put a small piece of 2X4 under the kick stand which sits the bike up and then place the stand underneath. It works really well for me.

I prefer spools. Rear wheel is free while on spools ... there is some touching with part of the sprocket when using flat platforms.

i use two 1/4" thick pieces of plywood. just be careful as this will make the bike less stableand more likely to fall over right since it is merely a balancing act at this point.
