Default Taillight

My back tailight dosent work. Only if i use the front brake it will come on..... other than that... the running light dosent come on and when i use the rear it dosent work either. Pretty dangerous since i ride alot at night. The tail light isnt stock either when i took off the seat to play with the wires it was all a custom job....if anyone knows how to fix this or if anyone can do it if you live by me i will glady pay $. I have no idea what to do...thinking if i take it somewhere it would cost me some big bucks.

sounds like you have two problems. the rear brake light problem seems to be as said above, related to the switch on the rear brake. on the running lights, are the other running lights on the bike working? (the amber front turn signals and the headlight) if not check your fuses. if so, there should be two individual wires running to each running light, toalling three wires going to each bulb including ground, brake and running lights. make sure all are connected. (if it is an aftermarket undertail with integrated turn signals there will be four). then hit the wires with a volt meter and make sure that you are getting juce at the right time.

i found out from blowing a couple fuses that the spedometer and turn signals are on the same fuse. I dont know how this info might help you just thought i would throw it out there

Thread resurection... Also, make sure the switch adjusting nut is screwed up far enough to trigger the switch...Pull up on the cable, screw the nut downward, push the cable back in the hole, then try to see if it's pulling enough to turn on the brakelight...
