Rear wheel loose/play
Ok, new bearings, new tire, and about 160lbs on the rear axle nut. So why oh why does my rear wheel assembly have play? I've retighten over and over again, and in a few hundred miles there's play. My rear brake caliper is also rubbing the brake rotor. Do I have a massive alignment problem? Could really use a trained/experiance motorcycle tech's advice on this one, (I'm an auto tech). There is also a slow yet wheel speed based clunk/pulsing vibration that can be felt in the foot pegs when accelerating from 5-10mph or when a lean load in put on the rear tire during a slow turn. I've marked the axle nut and the axle shaft, it is not backing off, (I've lost an axle nut at 150mph once before, something was looking out for me that day). Any idea's would be great!
Thanks.
Thanks.
My 1000F uses 69 foot pounds on the rear axle nut. And there are two different spacers on the axle, with the longer one by the brake. Or maybe you have the wrong distance collar inside the wheel.
found the answer to my own questions. The wheels on this bike have unfortunely been chromed. Who ever performed the chromming over honed the bearing surface, so the bearings now sit too deep into the wheel. The fix was a Subaru oil drain plug crush washer and some magic technical curse words. I've also located the rotational "clunk" noise to the chain, it's worn out and is skipping a link every once and awhile because it's now binding a bit.
I HATE CHROME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
