Default Random Cut In Rear Tyre (Safety Issue)

Hi All,

When checking my bike over the other day I noticed a cut in my rear tyre. When I peal back the rubber I can see what looks like a little bit of wire within the tyre. I have no idea how this has happened as I've not felt a thing when riding. My main mileage covered is to and from work via a short motorway journey with the odd ride on weekends. Nothing crazy.

The cut is approx. a couple of inches across the breadth and roughly an inch deep and few mm width.

Has this happened to anyone else? if so, do you have an explanation as to why or how this happened? Did you change your tyre immediately? Or is there any other fix for this problem? Is it even legal?

I will post a pic to view asap.

Any thoughts or opinions?

Sure, the road is a rough place. Could be a piece of glass, scrap of metal, anything really.

An inch deep and you can see belt then hell yea replace it. Should be a no brainer.

Replace it. Never take a chance with your life trying to be cheap and riding on/with faulty equipment.

Yeah, I agree it was clearly a no brainer! I went and had the tyre changed the same day - breaking it in now. Is it just me? or, do things go wrong when you least need them too!

Totally Agree with that mate! I wasn't planning to ride any longer than I had to (I.e. to the tyre depot) on my dodgy rubber. It was more of a pain in the A*se as the tyre I had on was near new!
