putting cams back in
I had a bad came and head on my engine so I pulled a good head andcams off my old engine which just has a bad tranny. I have the head on the engine in the bike ready to be torqued down and putting the cams back on the chain sounds tricky. I'd hate to do all this work then **** everything up by not putting the cams in the correct position. When I pulled the cams off the old engine I made sure to mark their location and take a couple pics, When it goes back on cant I just put it back the way it was on? Piston 1 is at TDC like the manual says. How easy is it to get it off a little bit and break everything? Also thinking about getting a $25 craftsman beam torque, any thoughts on these?

RE: putting cams back in
hey im doing the same thing as you are, i followed all the instructon on the manual but remove the lower part of the cam chain so what i did was just tilt up both cams and get the marks facing outwards just like the manual says, and now it wont start, it just cranks. the cam chain is super tensed to just put the cams on and install the cam chain over them. i dont remember the cam chain being so tensed, did i miss something? now im thinking taking it to the shop and spend at least 600 just to know if i did something wrong. im going to check the timing position again. crb 01 929. any helpers?
