You can try your self. Just remember a good long lasting paint job is all about the prep work. Sand it real well with 600 grit paper for the tough spots use a scotch brite pad. Then spray a light tack coat. Let it tack up than follow with a medium coat. I don't use rattle cans because nothing can beat a base coat clear coat job . If you take your time and follow the directions on the can you should be alright. The only other problem is if you mess it up it will cost more to have it fixed. Good luck. Try looking around @ some of the stores. I have seen the Base coat and clear coats availible in rattle cans from HOK. my friend did a couple of panels on his ATV with the Chameleon color changing paint and it actually looked pretty good. but we did do a hell of alot of sanding and wet sanding
