Oil thoughts

I would say that 10w40 would be fine I think thats what is in the owners manual.
As far as Royal Purple goes I will first say that this is a heated debate which oil is best I mean.
I myself have been using Royal Purple for about 13 years in every bike I have owned and that would be 3 3rd Gen Magnas 1 Valkyrie Interstate 1 CBR F3 this one was stolen from me and the soon new to me 96 CBR F3 and I will be creating a Royal Purple race theme on it . The oil has never failed me and does not break down as fast being a synthetic.
Now on that point I think the oil is not what we need to worry what we need to do is change the oil at the proper time thats not always 3000 miles but it cannot hurt either to change it then.
Proper oil and filter changes are much more important than the oil you use. YMMV

Honestly the factory filter is good Royal Purple also make a filter well I say make they have a filter made for them.
There are a few filter makers and they make filters for a lot of brands so to say one filter is better than the other you have to do a little more searching to find out who produced it.

I would.stay away from the 20w-50, what exactly do plan on doing with your bike? There was a giant post on this yesterday to help answer these kind of questions. I think you need to decide if you want synthetic or mineral oil. Remember you.want go with the tiniest oil possible it will reduce the amount of stress, wear, and will help with starting your bike and strain.
