Is there a difference between Honda 10W-40 oil and every other type of 10W-40 oil out there?

Default RE: Oil Question

depends on the specific oil. most automotive oils are energy conserving, which isn't great for the clutch. With that said, SG grade oils aren't too much different than most motorcycle oils, but there is so much spectrum when discussing oil that one paragraph about it isn't nearly the whole picture. why are you asking anyway? are you going to change your oil soon? are you asking so you don't use the wrong kind of oil? you're safe if you stick to motorcycle oils, but use discression when seeking out automotive grade oils. it will say weather or not it is Energy Conserving right on the API label found on the back of the oil container. JASO certified oils are good as well. just remember not to use any other viscosity oil than what the manufacture recomends. if it says 10w40, use 10w40, if it says 15w50, use 15w50.
