Oil and Filter.... Couple of questions
I have a '06 CBR600RR, with about 2,400 miles on it. I am thinking about switching over to a K&N Air Filter and K&N Oil Filter.
Will this show any sort of performance gain?
I also will be changing my oil and was curious about synthetics. I have read and searched and read and searched, and there is alot of writeups about this subject.
First, would you revommend going to synthetic oil with only 2,400 miles on the bike? Will this cause damage to anything?
Is Repsol a good choice for synthetic? What weight should I use (i.e... 10w-50), live in the desert where the climate goes from 50 degrees to 120 degrees.
Does anyone have a write up on changing the oil, have not yet purchased a maint book.
Final question...... Where is a good place to order these items? I do livea little more then an hour from Las Vegas, if there is any good places out there.

The air filter will show minimal HP gains, although, i'm curious as to why you're interested in performance with only just over 2k miles on the bike. The oil filter filters oil, so no HP or performance gains there. I wouldnt change to a full synthetic yet, usualy you switch to a full synthetic when you have more mileage on your engine. Switching to synthetic wont damage anything, but it wont really do any good from what I understand. The F4i owners manual for your climate says 20W - 40 for lower temps and 20w - 50 for higher temps. In my opinion oil is oil, yeah some will last longer, or some prevent engine wear, but they're usualy significantly more expensive. Just get it at your local hardware type store but make sure you buy the correct viscosity.
Shraz has a good writeup on alot of basic F4i maint.

Synthetic oil is better.
People say to wait a for more miles than 2400 to switch, other say some cars come with synthetic from the factory. My opinion is to wait then switch. One of the big plusses of synthetic is that each molecule is exactly the right size and shape. Dino oil has hundreds of different molecules each behaving differently and breaking down at different rates. Without the advantage of molybdium based friction modifiers dino oil can have a short lifespan. The shear strength of syntheticis enormous as well at its ability to stick to metal and keep gunk from forming and sticking.
The question is it worth the money? Probably not if you don't beat on your bike and you wont own it for a pile of miles, but is it better? Yes.
