Is this normal!
Hi I am a new CBR600F owner, 2006 machine, 9 k on the clock. Can I ask a few silly questions.
When riding off from cold and the bike has stood around for a day or so the first gear seems to whine a lot more than when the bike is hot. I presume this is down to just getting oil and temp into the transmission.
Also if I am doing low speeds in town, 20 to 30 mph I can hear a bit of a uneven rumble, does seem to change slightly on different roads, if I pull the clutch in its still there, is this just road and tyre noise coming through the fairing and plastics. Nothing at lower speeds or on the open road.
Thanks

Ah thanks I will. The noise though seems to becoming from the fairing area. I wonder whether I am riding in the wrong gear for these speeds, engine and transmission not really pulling etc.......but it's so difficult trying to pin stuff down without the risk of coming off!
The chain and sprockets look good, the tension seems fine......but I'll have another look...thanks for your time.

Make sure the chain has the proper slack by the manuals spec. A chain that's too tight, remember that it get tighter when you sit on it, will whine. Chains with a bad link will clack and eventually come apart, which is dangerous.
I can usually sit on the bike and reach down with my left hand and give it a wiggle. You want to check the tension with your weight on the suspension. If you have a rear stand pick the rear wheel up and give it a spin to listen for any abnormal noises.
If you verify that the sprockets/chain are in good condition, it may just be the nature of the beast. Some tires make noise and no road is perfectly smooth. If it was a transmission problem it should stop when you change gears or change the engine load.

The chain tension seems good. I've spin the back wheel with the wheel off the floor on the stand......nothing unusual.
I'll have to ride again later and check it at different speeds and gears. But as said earlier when I ride at a low speed, or 30 plus you don't hear it. I am thinking its road and tyre noise, with some input from the fairing.
Thanks for your advice.
