New chain and sprockets
Hey All,
I am new to the CBR world, and having just taken my 93 900 to the mechanic I learned I need a new chain and sprockets soon. What is the stock teeth front and rear? What are your experiences with changing the gearing? What brands recomended for durability(my top priority) and affordability? 520? OEM?
Thanks,
Dave

Unless the mechanic is a buddy of yours you should consider changing out your own chain and sprockets. It only takes a modest amount of mechanical skill to do the job. My favorites are D.I.D. and RK. Change your gearing if you desire a little extra oomph but remember you'll lose top end for quicker acceleration.
If you got with a 520 you'll lose some of that "durability" that is your top priority. 520's wont last as long as a 525. As far as chains, chainstretcher is right on the money with DID and RK. As far as sprockets go, I'm running a Vortex front sprocket (15 tooth) on my bike and i love it, it's a great sprocket. Yeah and as far as doing the job yourself, it only took me a total of 1 1/2 hours and that's with changing the oil at the same time. When considering how you want to gear the bike, depends on your style. If you want more acceleration (low end) drop teeth in the front and/or raise teeth in the rear. If you want a higher top end do the opposite.
