I'm not really that worried about the fine..it won't kill me. I just don't want my insurance rates to go up. And I don't think it can be reduced much more since I don't think this will add any points to my record anyway (I think only over 10mph adds points). But he did catch me speeding. He paced behind me for about 1/2 mile. I didn't know it was a cop (it was 10:30 at night) and he was riding my *** so close and switching from the right lane to the left lane I was scared to turn around, thinking I had a drunk driver or kids messing with me. The only good news is that I know my speedois dead on. I was traveling at 65 indicated, thinking I was going more like 59 or 60. But I guess it's not off at all since he got medoing 65; maybe a previous owner had it re-calibrated.

EDIT: CBRBRF, couldn't find any info on deferment in Ohio, so I don't think that's an option.

Well it sounds like you have a story to tell the Judge about the cop following too close and all. That might help you out a bit.

I would recommend...

#1 Ask the court to postpone your case due to your work schedule, do this as close to the court date as you can and hope that the officer cannot show on the rescheduled day.
#2 If the rest of your driving record is fair/good go to DMV and get a certified copy of your driving record (a print out with stamp and signature), this will show you have spent some time to prepare for court.
Nine times out of ten you will pay a reduced fine by showing to court. You will pay a fine, just lower than you would have.

I'm surprised you were pulled at 10 over but for most officers that is their limit or flexibility. Good luck! Slolane

I'm with CBRCRF... Say that you noticed the vihicle behind you was driving somewhat erratically and you were affraid to make any sudden decelerations to get to the speed limit, because you thought maybe the driver was intoxicated and wouldnt have been able to react well enough. so you were trying to match his speed as to stay out of potential danger.

here in Florida you can ask for a withhold. This means you pay the fine and court costs but the points do not go against you license. You should see if the courts by you offer this option. Florida also offers a traffic school, which reduces the fine amount and keeps the points off of your license. You may want to do a little checking around to see what your options are.
Here in Florida, at least in my county, if you ask for a court date you'll recieve a date where the cop is not required to show. Here you can ask for the points to be withheld, or ask to contest the ticket in court where the officer must show otherwise the citation is dismissed. In fact today in court I would say about 8 citations were dismissed because the officer was a no show.

i usually get a lawyer. sometimes they send you a letter in the mail and you pay a couple of hundred bucks and dont have to go to court. no points on your licence and thats that.

Most lawyers also have a stipulation that if you recieve points you don't have to pay for the services. what they do here in Florida is ask the officer if they will agree with a withhold of adjucation. Most Officers will agree unless there was sometype of special circumstance, possibly like real excessive speed ( 110 in a 45), fleeing, drugs and or alcohol, or a long driving record.
Make a couple of calls to the court house or possibly local lawyers over the next few days and decide what you think is best.
You did say that there was a mistake in the number of lanes and you were wondering if the citation could get dismissed due to that. If the statue was wrong, location was wrong, or the speed not on the ticket then possibly, but the lanes would be a long shot.

yep, show up, hopefully the cop will be a no show, and you can win!

If not... Have you taken traffic school within the last 18 months or whatever it is they allow. 12 months, 16 months? cant remember the amount of time...
