Default My project

Today is the day, folks. I'm going to pick up my project '92 cbr600f2 today. I'm posting this in general tech because I will have a LOT of questions during my rebuild. I'm going to have my camera with me everyday I'm working on it, so I'll be updating this thread frequently with lots of pictures. I'm going to need to mount the engine for sure, but I'm going to start with cleaning carbs and cleaning everything in general. Wish me luck!

Okay. So I'm having second thoughts. I bought it, got it home, and man, it's a lot more daunting than I thought it would be. I cleaned my carbs...well two of them since two got stripped screws (one my fault). But that's about all I could do. I paid 600 for all the stuff (see pictures) and do you think I could get more for just parting it out? I'm really torn about this, I wanted to build it but I think it's just beyond me. How much does an engine go for? Frame? Also worth noting is it has a new Ohlins(sp) rear shock.

Be honest with me. If you think I should continue, where the hell do I start?

Ugh.

I think you could easily get your money back and then some if you parted it out. At this point, you have nothing to pull apart and it would be really easy to sell off the parts. If I had to guess, I'd say you have at least 2000 worth of parts there. Of course, this all depends on if you can sell them.

On the otherhand, it looks like everything is there. Its really not as hard as it appears. My main concern would be the engine in that it was stored properly. If the intake and exhaust ports were not taped off, it s possible the rings will be rusted to the cylinder walls. Of course, this all depends on how long it has sat in its current state.

In the end, if you feel you cant finish it, then part it out. if it were me, I'd put it back together and ride it. Your going to be hard pressed to get another bike that cheap.

He told me it sat for about a year. I don't know if it they were taped off. I'll have to buy a lot of hardware (nuts, bolts, etc) since it didn't come with much. Especially not the ones to mount the engine.

Would you say a jack is required to mount an engine? I don't have one but I can get one for about $25 at Auto-Zone that would do the job. I kept seeing jacks for like 2 tons, 4 tons, and thought to myself "I need a jack for like 200lbs haha"

Do you know of a place to find a complete <insert specific hardware set here> set? I know ebay obviously.

Well, I decided to part it out. Starting tonight, I put my seat on ebay, lol. Tomorrow I'll do some mass-picture taking and do some mass-uploading tomorrow night.
