Motor oil DOES NOT increase HP... THE ONLY thing that increases HP is BURNING MORE FUEL! PERIOD!!!

So unless you are burning more fuel, any "gain" in HP numbers comes from reduced parasitic loss. Oil doesn't make/restore/rebuild/etc. HP (whatever verb you want to use), it can only reduce friction to allow HP to be used somewhere else. Light oil reduced bearing friction, reduced windage loss, is easier to pump, easier to shed, and easier to push (the crank/rods/pistons) through.

Does it really make a "big" difference? That is based on a lot of factors, one of them being personal preference/desire to spend money. Professional racers will spend $1,000s to gain a 1/2HP, but, with corporate backing they can afford spend $1,000s to gain a 1/2HP.... most of us can't...

well OF COURSE royal purple claims that, how else are they going to try justifying $15 a quart....

it doesn't add hp. maybe after running sh*tty conventional oil that is really old, and switching to a full synthetic you might see a few hp more, but thats because its new oil, not because the expensive stuff creates hp. once your "hp-adding-oil" gets old, it will not be running max hp either.

so its a wash, just like we said in the beginning

your bike just RUNS BETTER on fresh new oil, and it runs even better on synthetic fresh oil.

I love oil threads!

Here's my story: After running nothing but Pennzoil 10-40 for decades (yes, I'm that old) an oil thread turned me on to Rotella 15-40. After putting my first oil change with Rotella the bike had so much more power the front wheel wouldn't stay on the road, it shifted more smoothly, was quieter, it's paint gleamed, the tires had way more grip, my wife was far more affectionate, and guys were really envious of my bike.

Just because I switched to Rotella.

YMMV.

lmao...I'm getting myself some Rotella! Does it make me more handsome too...Just fun talking about motor oils...girls talks about handbags & guys talk about engine oil..... the only thing I hate is when bike feel HOT! After pushing it on a dry day....cooling system looks fine.

Is Royal Purple really that good??? Just hurts my wallet thinking about it... How costly is Rotella?

rotella is $22/gallon at walmart. i used it in my first 929 for 80k miles. bike ran great and didnt burn a drop of oil. clutches are still original and didnt slip at all. current 929 gets rotella as well. i am sticking to what has proven to work (and fairly cheap too)

I believe every word of that.
When I put Rotella it in my lawnmower, it threw the grass completely out of my yard. I had to go back to pennzoil because the neighbors got pissed.

Anyone wearing a watch, hold your hand up...it's getting a little deep in here!

I guess oil discussions can be as entertaining as gasolene discussions!

When Dylan blunders into the room it's hard to keep a straight face, I'll give you that.
You owe me some beer Dylan, lost involuntarily on my screen FFS!

As I posted in his other thread , HP gains can be shown on a dyno BUT its done as a comparison between conventional oil and full synthetic and its done on cars when all possible lubrication in the complete drivetrain is changed to full synthetic from the engine all the way to the axles.

In that absolute 'best' case scenerio, gains of a few percent are possible, typically something like +/- 5HP on a 300HP+ baseline.

The parasitic loss in motorcycle drivetrains are of course considerably less than that of an automobile therefore any gains are to be considerable less.

Going from one brand synthetic to another , is virtually impossible to realize any true gain. Loss is equally possible for that matter.
