Motor oil affects horse power? Fact or Fiction
In general, does motor oil affects horsepower & mileage? Reason I'm asking is Pro-Honda state HP4M will increase HP, better mileage, smooth shifting. Question is if this is true or false? Does any other oil brands out there claim this fact. I'm spectacle about this that selection of motor oil will actually help my bike produce more HP...man...who does not want more HP...as simple as oil?
I have been running HP4M for 600 miles now in my 900rr...I feel bike is running as strong as ever...but can this be only in my head? Because Pro Honda said so...then my mind playing tricks on me.
Previously, I was running Lucas Full Synthetic...those are not cheap oil either.
Any thoughts anyone? Tks!

The basic claim is based on, decreasing friction internally prevents HP losses.
Preventing that loss, effectively adds to the usable HP generated by the engine.
This is also true of chain lubrication, as well.
Personally, imo, the real-world effectiveness vs different brands is practically nil.
The claim is mostly based on not using ANY lubrication. i.e. technically correct,
but more PR than any actual gains.

Fact in theory
Fiction in the real world.
you're talking fractions of a hp MAYBE. don't use good oil because you want max hp, use the good stuff because lubrication of your bearings, piston rings, gears, valves, etc. is EXTREMELY important.
full synthetic does shift better and it does last longer than conventional.

Well as mater of fact it DOES increase power. The only brand that im aware of that claims this is Royal Purple. It has been dyno proven time and time again. It proved itself to me, I had a very noticable power gain. But as with any power mod, the more power you already have the more you'll gain from the mod. As far as bikes go they have much less HP compared to a race car so the "felt" power gain is slim to none.
For all intensive purposes.... it's bullchit. If you're concerned with 2hp, why don't you run 0W energy oils.
I've never understood people's fascination with a few hp. Just ride your f'in bike. Every CBR I've ever ridden is pretty dam fast.

Your right on...makes sense...quality oil keeps engine cool & restores HP rather than gain. Decrease friction, better mileage...it's really controversial because some people thinks oil is oil...

Royal purple...Ummm? Never tried it... Maybe next run I'll give it a try....
