Default motor case # vs. frame Vin#

Today I noticed that the case on my motor has one number (PC35E-2008030) and then the frame has the Vin number (JH2PC3509XM001576). How do these numbers compare? When the DMV does an inspection to confirm the Vin, what do they look at?

Reason I'm asking is that I will eventually have to get a bonded title for my bike due to the way I got it (owner left it at a shop for years and shop finally sold it to get rid of it). I was thinking that if I can get a frame (there is a guy on craigslist selling an F4i frame with title for $250), it might save me all the leg work and trouble of getting a bonded title. However, I would need to know how the motor case number relates to the vin number.

Thanks,
Chris

They're only going to be looking at the VIN. That's the only number that's on the Title (at least in FL, and I suspect most states). A future owner might compare engine numbers to VIN's to see if the motor and frame are from the same year, but that's about it. Only Honda would be able to tell anyone if a specific motor came with a specific frame.
