For future reference, the tools you can pick up on amazon or ebay for 20 bucks, WILL work without issue.

Dont worry about the reviews, I bought one and figured for the price if it broke after a single use, it would still pay for itself. If it didn't then I'd be ahead of the game
Ive only done 3 chains with it but it's still in good shape. Just have to take your time with it and it'll be fine.

Glad you updated this post , I was wondering about clipped master links myself. Now I know how they can be a pain in the backside.

 

It's a pretty sinking feeling looking at your chain after coming over a mountain pass and realizing a very important part is missing. All 4 times I babied the bike home, fortunately without issue. The Renthal chain I run has a press on end plate, unlike my dirt bike chains, which is the only reason it wasn't a complete disaster.
I'm not sure why some people have had no problems and I've lost 4 clips... I'm still running the same chain and sprockets, after having a riveted link installed, with no other issues.
