Default Putting on new chain

Yo, new to the forum. Im working on installing some new sprockets and a new chain, and was wondering how I take off the stock chain... do I need a chain tool, or is there a master link I can pop off? Also do I need a chain tool to change the length of the new chain I got? BTW its going to be -1/+2 along with a speedohealer. Does anyone else that has done this mod like it or not.. Peace

yo mang...awesome mod, but if you do highway riding may get a bit buzzy.
no you don't need a chain tool to take off the chain, dremel will work or anything else to cut it.
but you do need the chain tool (rivet and breaker) to get the chain to proper length.
otherwise, you can use a dremel and cut off the rivet face and pop off rivet that way.
remember, chain always has to be even length. you will need chain tool to rivet the master link unless you have clip type, in which case, you better put that sucker on real good.

what exactly do you mean by putting on a clip type master link real good? i was thinking about buying a clip type chain just so that i could put it on myself without having to buy a chain tool. friend of mine said that you can put a dab of some high temp sealant (?) on the clip and you would be good. what do you think?

yea...that's the trick...but also make sure the open end of the master link is facing the rear of the bike.
IMO...just rivet it...
you know...you can probably use a riveter from HDR or something...not them bling bling bike specific ones...after all, a riveter is a riveter is a riveter, as long as it fits and works, it's a riveter!

HDR = Home Deport Racing.

open end facing the rear of the bike? do you mean the open end of the clip? and if so, when should i check to see if it is facing the rear- when the link is above or below the swingarm (cause they will face different ways depending)...

yes, the open end of the clip, when it's on top, it's facing the rear...

so the open part is facing the opposite direction of travel.
