Default looking for a discrete muffler

the muffler i have on right now is a two brothers slip on.. its too loud it seems like its been welded on does anyone know what the procedure is for taking these things off? I want to replace it with an almost silent exhaust/muffler/slip-on. Any advice is welcome

If it's a slip on, correct me if I'm wrong somebody but shouldn't it just have been...slipped on? I know mine came with an exhaust clamp that tightens around the pipes where the slip on meets the headers.

IF the muffler is welded on my suggestion would be to cut it as close to the bead as you can and then put a notch in the pipe (like the bike would come from factory) so that you can slip another pipe over it, hopefully there is enough room to slip one over without any more modification.

As for almost silent mufflers, I have no idea...I like my Yoshi but it's not the quietest muffler, it's also not the loudest though.

Good luck!

Yep, TB's are nice but loud. Oem is the most "discreet" but its heavy & bulky. Like TGiM above, I have a Yoshi. Its not loud but you know its there.

You are correct, that is the way the exhaust should be set up.

Have you looked behind the fairings? Its possible you just haven't looked far enough down the pipe to find the clamp. if it is truly welded all the way, you will have to cut the pipe. But, do not cut the old one off unit you get the new one so you know exactly where to cut. You will probably be cutting just behind the weld and sliding the old pipe off. It shouldn't be an issue if you leave the old weld a small piece of the old pipe still welded on as long as there is enough room to slide the new pipe on. But make certain you are looking far enough down the exhaust. there is a header, which is 4 pipes into one, then the mid-pipe, then the muffler. The mid-pipe and header should be clamped together.

If you want quiet, your going to have to go stock. I don't know of any aftermarket slip ons that are quiet. You should be able to find an oem one on ebay.

many of people have been known to weld exhausts on because it wasn't the exact model for their bike (i.e. it wouldn't fit correctly unless welded) so it is possible to have a slip-on not exactly be able to slip-off...

stock would be your best bet for quiet.... but i'm not quite sure why you'd want quiet? but that's fine.

if you're not into all that bulky-ness and size, you could just pack your muffler some more, and that would quiet things down a bit. it would cost the least, it'd still look nice too.

This is a good suggestion. I routinely talk to a couple of the guys at TB & they are always glad to assist w/ any customer issues. In fact, they'd prob do this work for you. Give 'em a call.

look inside the can, you'll see where there is an inner tube, and on the other side of it is packing. usually fiberglass or steel wool or something... you add more and it's quieter

It looks like fiberglass, the inner tube is basically loose and the baffles have been blown through or something it looks like.
