Default Limited to 20 MPH when Oil Light Came On

Hi Guys,

I did a search for this situation in this forum but couldn't find anything with the same situation as me. The other day I was doing a weekend ride around town and coming out of a red light turning right, my oil light came on around 2nd or 3rd gear. The engine was still running but was limiting my speed to 20 MPH. I freaked out a little and pulled over onto the shoulder and turned the engine off for a couple minutes. I restarted the engine and everything was back to normal. I drove it to the gas station and filled the tank (there was still about 2-3 bars of gas left when this happened however) and then back home without any problems and since then I've put about 50 miles on it without any problems and still running strong. Also I just bought it about a month ago and took it to a trusted shop to get tuned up/oil changed etc about two weeks ago.

Do I need to worry? I don't want to take it to a shop to get looked at and charged if it was just some kind of glitch. What are some things I can check on to make sure this won't happen again?

Thanks in advance

Sounds like your bike kicked into Limp-mode for a bit, trying to protect itself.

The one thing you didn't mention was you checking your oil levels after getting an oil light on the dash. That's the first thing I would have been concerned with - like before restarting the bike at all. Your bike is designed to maintain proper oiling levels in all lean angles that it is capable of normally maintaining.
