This just sucks
Was following a friend through the parking lot on our way to get some grub. Well, his tire threw up what I thought was water on my bike. Came out and it looked just like water spots so I thought nothing of it. Today I tried to clean it off. I used plasic polish on the shield and tried cleaner wax on the front, but it won't come out. It etched into everything.
I'll try to get some pics.
I tried some 3M compound that removes scratches for 1500 grit paper and it did nothing. You can feel the bumps in the sheild and I think what I see are pits in the paint. Once I see it in the sun. I'll know if I can manage to just live with it. The shield will have to be changed/modified. I won't be able to stand the constant water spot look.
My best guess now is that it was water with PVC cement in it. The parking lot we were driving through had a star bucks being built in it. I think the water being run off was them flushing the new PVC lines out. Maybe I should do some research and see if I can get them to pay for it. If it was my car, I wouldn't just file a claim, but with a $4000 paint job I certainly just let it go with out anything said.

ive had a few customers bring me there cars with white water deposits on the cars paint. they park in underground parking structures. the water seaps thru the roof and drips on the car leaving calcium or lime stone water deposits on the finish. this IS removeable, but it will take some work to get the paint back to normal. to remove the spots you will need some pretty heavy products. if you live near any auto detailing shops i suggust you take your bike to them. i can tell you how to do it, but you have to use some strong chemicles. and the chemicles are not readily available to the general public. regular compounds will not remove the spots. you will need a strong wheel acid to first break down the foreign matter. then you will need to wheel out the areas with a medium compound, then wheeling out with a fin compound, then finishing off with a polish and paint sealant. its will be a pretty long process to get the paint back to its perfect finish. by the way, DO NOT try going to your local autoi parts store trying to buy the wheel acid. its a commercial grade product only available to shops. the stuff they selll in stores will not work. its not strong enough.
if you like, send me an email or private message and ill shoot you my phone number. i might be able to tell you over the phone how to remove those spots. if you have full coverage ins, you may be able to file a comprehensive claim.

^^^ -- Good post and good info. Seems like we have a lot of folks on here with different kinds of expertise. That's why I come on here so much. I may not need all of the info on here, but sooner or later, I'm going to need some of it.
he drove thu some water run-off from a construction site. its calcium or lime stone deposits in the water that flung up on his bike. then it dried. its kinda easy to remove, but alot of work with strong chemicles.
