Default Importance/Function of air guides

On my 95 Honda CBR 600 F3 there are two air guides under the headlight. After taking the plastics apart I could never get the air guides to line back up perfectly. I am just wondering what there function is.

Do they help air flow through the bike? Is it a cooling mechanic? I only ask because one air guide is kind of obstructed by the fairing. I am not really concerned with the way it looks, therefore I really don't care to move it. But if it being obstructed is a potential problem then I will definitely try to move it back to it's original place.

Thanks in advance.

Just had mine apart the other day and had the same problem. Worked out that one of the metal brackets needed to be rotated to a different position and now they sit perfectly. The brackets have little bent tangs to stop against the plastic on the fairing when you do them up. Stops them rotating and locates them into the correct position but like I said, I found out one had to sit differently.

Those are used in conjunction with a solenoid for better power at <9 mph speeds. They often get trash/discarded by the track set. They aren't essential to the bike, but help in the real world street-riding.
