Default Ignition Pulse generator questions

Does anyone out there know any specifics about the ignition pulse generator? My 93 900rr had problems when you revved past 6000 rpm, it would break up as you got up to that rpm with a load on it. The carburetors have been completely gone through, new plugs, new air filter. When the coils were replace that made the problem stop for a few weeks. My service manual instructed me to read the ignition pulse generator wires at the ICM, and i had a reading of 560 ohms when i was having the problems. The manual said i should have a range of between 430 and 580. I now have a readiong of 605 ohms. Should i replace this thing solely because i am reading out of range, or are there other things that may cause this reading to be high? I would like to try to troubleshoot and fix this myself since the shop went through all of these other things trying to find out the problem and didnt look to the coils until i told them to see if they were bad. Any help from out there or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Im not sure on the 900s but my 600 has a connector under the seat. I would recheck the resistance there and see if falls back into specs. The connector there may be corroded or wires from that connector to your ICM may be developing a break. Also, keep in mind that resistance value in the book is at 68 degrees F. It will vary if its warmer or cooler.

Thanks Lonewolf i will give it a try when it is as cool as possible. My spot where i am checking is under the seat right at the ICM; im gonna see if i can find any other places in the wire run where there is a connector that may be dirty or corroding and causing my high reading.

Hello all, newbie here. Not trying to jack the thread either, but I have IPG question as well. I have what I believe is a F2 engine trans combo (its on a shifter kart though, so im not exactly sure) In folowing the wiring diagrams from the F2 manual it appears to have the same colors and set up of the F2. My question is this, is the IPG the same across the board for that range of years? Does it come on anyother models either? Both my local Honda dealer and Bike bandits either didnt know, or didnt want to tell me.
TIA
John
